I tried several dozen magnolia(sieboldii) cuttings in several pots/soil mediums in the fall. only one survived and set new buds despite a harsh freeze and 5” of snow covering it for a week in early december. Here’s the catch: its in an oversized pot 15x15” pot with a hinoki cypress. The tree will not be affected by any digging around but I wonder what to do with the cutting.
Im in Seattle, but a microclimate moderated heavily by 52* Puget Sound, so temps rarely leave the 35 - 80 range
-Do I leave it in this pot all growing season and let it continue to drop its roots into this 15” deep pot?
-Should i slip pot now or once march weather takes effect?
-Or should i bare-root it and clean off all organic matter?(probably not smart)
