I've recently thought about trying a slab planting. Actually a pocketed slab planting, not a super shallow slab. I was wondering how differently the care is for trees in these types of containers, and if there is a big learning curve to it. Also if there are types of trees that do not do well other than the obvious types that wouldn't want a shallow pot.
Thanks for any information.

Aside from watering more often they work out fine. I use natural, gathered slabs that I drill a few holes in, build a dam out of muck*, and add the soil and trees. I particularly like forest plantings on slabs. You need to watch them in the summer as they can dry out faster due to the shallowness of the soil. *(the recipe I use for the muck is leftover fines from the soil I've sifted, sawdust, and the long stringy version of sphagnum moss. mix the ingredients together, soak in water till it all sticks together, and form your "dam".)
