I picked up this ulmus x hollandica 'jacqueline hillier' from a nursery a couple weeks ago for £20. It has a nice bend in the trunk and the base flares. It's hella root bound so my job tomorrow is getting it raked out and into a pond basket to do some branch growing.

There is some inverse taper near the base of the tree but I like the shape and think that it's workable. I have to decide which of the main branches to keep as the trunk continuation and then build some branch structure around it.

It is so strange to see these elm species with smooth bark. Everything I have is very rugged.

This looks like a great tree! I'm going to look forward to seeing what's under the soil line!

Any recommendations on the timing of the future root and canopy pruning?

A little update this was growing well this year and then in the middle of the heatwave we had it dropped all of the leaves on one of the branches. The branch is still alive though.
