Wonderful, thanks for sharing!
The affectionate care and respect these trees receive radiates from them. It is inspiring and touch's the heart.

Awesome pictures. Wish I could afford a trip like this. Though....I would problay come home and kill myself after killing all my pathetic trees.

Thanks for the tour.

This pretty much sums up my feelings as well. All these trees are incredible, but the shohin were from another world! Thanks!!

Dave

Don't feel too bad guys. Bonsai has only been around in the US for maybe 90 years or so. These are fabulous trees however. The mountains out west are full of yamadori. Walter Pall can make his ponderosa pines look very close to JBP. Thanks Buddha, those are some amazing trees !

Who?
We have great American Bonsai Artists like Ryan Neil, Michael Hagedorn and others that are not internet famous that do wonderful work with Native Yamadori.

Ok. I went into horticulture hoping there wouldn't be too much math involved. What would the conversion rate be in US $ for some of those trees? I've tried to calculate a few but not sure I'm getting it right.

Here's a recent post on Michael Hagedorn's blog about another artist who will be coming back to the US from Japan and guess where he is from?

Portland Oregon!!!

I can't wait to have our own "Omiya Village" with Randy Knight collecting the trees and these three developing them to their full potential.

Man! Some amazing trees there. After a while I don't know if I'd become inspired or depressed. Imagine the work it would take just to maintain some of those white pines!

Ya know, i got depressed not being able to see some of the deciduous trees clearly here:D All that emphasis on pines :D There are some truly remarkable deciduous trees hanging around in the backgrounds and edges of some of those photos... Is that a pyracantha? Is that a plum or a cherry?

Yeah, I have some cheese to go with my whine...:D

Thanks for the pictures, they are amazing. I can only dream of ever coming that close to training a tree to look like any of these.

Buddamonk,
Michael had spoken about Matt in a few older posts as well, he sounds like a great young man. I am very happy and excited about the direction Bonsai is taking in this country.

The tree with the orange fruit is Fortunella Hindsii, a variety of Kumquat. This one is very nice, add it to my list for for sure!
