My partner has a thriving jade in potting soil in a terra cotta pot.
I have one in medium bonsai mix that keeps looking peaked.

I'm going to put it in a pot but wonder should I do it like hers in potting soil or make some sort of mix.
These are the only 2 jade plants in the yard.

Or did I already answer it in the first sentence? :)

Traditional/true Jade (like Crassula)? or "Dwarf Jade"/Portulacaria Afra?

My understanding is that true Jade are much more sensitive to moisture/overwatering.
I have a number of P. Afra and they can thrive in most any old soil mix I throw them in (though I do aim for a dryer mix) so long as they get a chance to dry out occasionally.

I use the Miracle-Gro Cactus/Succulent soil for all my jade and P. afra. They do great, I water once a week.

My wife's Crassula is doing well in Bonsai Jack's standard organic bonsai mix. It's been in that since spring when I brought it home from Lowe's. Can't hurt for you to try potting soil though.

Just switched. Took it out of the bonsai mix after 2 years. About an eighth of an inch of roots.

Weird, I have mine in all bark and pumice and it filled a 10 inch pot completely. Maybe it's the climate or your watering? And is it Portulacaria or the true jade Crassula?

I use either bonsai soil mix or miracle grow cactus mix, sometimes i mix them together.
For cuttings I use the miracle grow until some good roots.

This is for portulicaria afra in my case

I have some Jades in Miracle Grow cactus soil and some in straight Napa 8822 Oil Dry with just a little pine bark mixed in. The ones in the Napa 8822 seems to be doing the best. I only water about every 2 to 3 weeks.
