Hello guys ! I’m curious to know what’s your preferred soil blend for tropicals. Currently I have fukien tea, sageretia theezans, escambron, ficus nerifolia.I’m not throwing my olive into the mix. Planning to repot next season. What mix could I use for all of them ? Organic ? Inorganic ?

Tropics here -------- even the Olive [ 31 years from seed ] we have is in -

5 mm silica based gravel
if needed - 5 mm crushed red earthenware brick [ perhaps red lava ]
aged compost .

can be 1/3 , 1/3 , 1/ 3 by volume or

simply 2/3 silica based gravel and 1/3 aged compost by volume

Good Day
Anthony

*Ficus is 90% 5 mm gravel and 10 % aged compost by volume in
less than 1 inch or so soil mix.

Do you have radiators or forced air?

Wait....

Does it even get cold there?

Where are they staying over winter?

Winter temps are typically in the 20-30’s. I put them in a greenhouse.

I use the same soil in my tropicals as my conifers. Pumice, lava, fir bark equal parts. I haven't had any issues.

Asking because while some ficus seem to grow perpetually well all the time....

Some require a dormancy of sorts.

That may or may not determine the soil, as , something that goes dormant might could use to stay a little wetter so you can forget it....

But straight sifted DE for me Ficus.
