Hello everyone!

So I have this project to label my bonsais in japanese (when they will be worthy to call bonsai), and I thougth to myself that maybe someone could be interested as well, so why not to share my research so far?

I started searching for names of the trees that I own, but then I kept searching for those who I would like to aquire.

I wrote them in Katakana first, then Kanji, then in our alphabet, then I wrote the latin names, then the common english names.

Sango Kaku Momiji (Acer Palmatum Sango Kaku) - Japanese Maple Coral Bark

Deshojo Momiji (Acer Palmatum Deshojo) - Japanese Maple Deshojo

Boke (Chaenomeles Japonica) - Flowering Quince

Seiyou Ringo (Malus Domestica) - Crabapple

Toukaede (Acer Buergerianum) - Trident Maple

Ume (Prunus Mume) - Japanese Apricot

Now this one is quite tricky, because apparently japanese doesn't seem to have a name for this. Everywhere I searched it was written just as a generic Japanese Maple. But I find some images where it was written as Red Japanes Maple. So this might not be correct at all.

Akamomiji (Acer Palmatum Atropurpureum?) - Japanese Maple Atropurpureum

So that's it for my list.

If someone is interested and wants to know any other tree name in japanese I could try and search for it.

Cheers!

This site is in French, but it mentions the scientific names and the Japanese names. What's more, most of the time, there are maps showing the natural range of the different plants, which can be of some help to understand the climate in which they grow.

Examples :

ACÉRACÉES, 楓科 KAEDEKA

=> Genres
=> ACER, 楓属 KAEDEZOKU

=>http://plantes-du-japon.fr/唐楓-TOKAEDE.html

Etc.

Maybe you are aware, but the モミジサンゴカク, you put the autumn leaves/momiji/モミジ/紅葉-part first. But in the kanji and the romanized text, they appear last.

Thanks for pointing it out.
I've seen it both ways, so I guess it doesn't really matter.
