As I don't appear to be getting any younger and the joints are therefore becoming less co-operative I've been picking out trees I think have better potential for shohin sized bonsai and putting some extra effort into them as they develop.
Today was trimming day for a few.
Semi-cascade Chinese elm:
Japanese maple:
The apex is congested. I probably should have thinned out during the growing season because I know from experience these swell quick.
Also a branch with long first internode. I could get away with that in a larger tree but it will stand out painfully in a shohin sized tree so I've chopped it leaving a short stub. New shoots should sprout from the branch collar at the base.
