Alright it is about time I posted up some natives. There are a great many more that I am sure would make awesome bonsai but here are three that I decided to try. Disclaimer, the oak might not be ideal but I wanted to try it for sentimental reasons. If you have any Southwest US natives post'em up!

Left to right: Desert Almond (Prunus fasciculata), Cliff Rose (Purshia glandulosa) and Gambel oak (Quercus gambelii).

They each have some awesome traits.

Desert Almond (Prunus fasciculata)

This little fella has itty bitty leaves and a very nice twiggy branching pattern.

Haha nice! I threw three in the ground a few months ago and BAM over winter I've got some decent trunks already. The turquoise color really makes them stand out.

Nice little tree.

Thanks NewWorldBonsai! and I like the scent of its leaves, too.
