I picked this up in a nursery in the bargain corner awhile back ($5). It had no leaves as it was winter but was labeled alder which it is not. Or rather not like any alder I know of here (now that its leafed out) ...altho the bark is similar. Not having branch die off that I experience with my collected alders.

Did a chop while it was dormant. Didn't miss a beat. Worked down the root mass a couple months later and put it in a colander. The moss is loose only on top my potting mix to help keep moisture during the heat. No sign of stress but will let it go this year, maybe work back more on the branches when it's dormant.

Nice fat trunk and decent taper. Know I'll be asking advice on styling next year.
