These Specific Species Study Threads will serve for the documentation and discussion of growing young plants, upwards, together, towards a common “TinyTree” presentation goal.

North American Honeysuckle

Now there are 2 main Lonicera endemic to my area... How about you guys?

Also... I feel that they are extremely tough, attractive trees... that are extremely distributed, and if we were able to "figure them out" a touch, the implications would be HUGE for North American TinyTree culture.

Now there IS another that has been in my care for a bit of time. But for THIS documentation I will present a young, cutting-grown Lonicera... pondering it's bonsai aspirations.

Trunk Growth will be cut to lowest bud. (Until/unless 'lowest favorable growth point' has been achieved.373E9BC1-AFF3-4DA2-950D-C81124938288.jpeg
Each individual chute will then be pruned/pinched to 1st or 2nd node. Similar to 'Vine Training'A72CEABD-42C0-41D8-98BC-DCB21CE6B21C.jpeg

End of season update:

The specific growth patterns of these local Lonicera are becoming clearer.... Easier to cause it to "do what you want"

Please, ask questions about these processes, if curious... I will be detailing care/procedures MUCH more thoroughly NEXT season, as I'm beginning to somewhat fancy this species.

I ended up losing some alternate "trunks" when the wildfire smoke gave us some hard frost mid-june.

But the young'n is still moving forward.

This pic taken today, after recent defoliation.
