While some of you northerners are experiencing heat waves and wildfires spring seems to have leapt upon us early down here.
New buds opening on deciduous trees is always a welcome sight.

Tridents are usually one of the first deciduous species to move but there's a lot of variation from one individual to the next.

3 tridents that have been side by side for the past year.

IMGP9003.JPG
The middle one has developing leaves

IMGP9004.JPG
while the one on the right is just opening.

IMGP9005.JPG
The trident on the left is still way behind with buds just showing red tips

IMGP9006.JPG
Above these a crab apple has leaves and swelling flower buds

IMGP9001.JPG
Elsewhere, younger red leaf crabs are also opening brilliant colored leaves

A smaller trident maple looking really nice with half open new leaves.

Nice to see those beautiful fresh leaves. In the northern hemisphere, its late summer. Many of my deciduous trees' leaves are tired, some sunburnt, etc. The pictures above are refreshing, thank you

I'm still working on developing a good bonsai with that variety.

A couple of Japanese maples are extending new shoots and opening first leaves.

The little tridents have leaves fully open now

Thanks for the likes everyone.

3 of those JM are 20-30 years old. The second one is only around 12. All grown from seed. The last JM is actually grafted. I replaced a tall, straight trunk with an approach graft just above the first branch. It is the smallest of those at around 30 cm tall.

All the tridents also grown from seed.
The final pic is the youngest. After I realized that all my tridents looked similar I decided to try for one with more dynamic trunk.

They all look great, even the "similar looking" tridents, but the youngest one goes in a very interesting way, congrats!
