Okay, into fridge, vegetable crisper temperature, since the third week of January 2018
Out April 1st. about 2 months of winter.
Mother plant since 1980, and the miracle root of another dead mother plant sometime in the
early 90's.

Repairing damage and refining branchlets.

2 applications of 1/3 strength Miracle Gro lawn fertiliser into moist soil.
Soil is now 8 parts inorganic and 2 parts organic [ sifted aged compost ]

Lesson learnt last year ------- Celtis can handle our sun, but not breeze
at the same time. This year dappled sunlight.
Used to be under the Governor Cherry, but had shifted to the now dead Pommegranate
shrub. The area around the Governor Cherry is blocked by a bamboo hedge.
No strong breezes.
But full sun.

The full sun and breezes, stunted/crippled the new shoots.
Results for last year were very poor.

Anyhow here is the spring flush growth and will not be cut
until the end of this month.

First - miracle root of a mother, that sprang to life.

Second - a mother [ seedling in 1980 Lafayette, Louisiana - backyard ]

Additionally - not shown - 5 root cuttings have resprouted for
training ------ need bigger fridge or the cold room.
Time will tell.
Questions ?
Good Day
Anthony

Standard repotting - removal of sides and underneath, no interferring
with the core.
Objective - roots will spread rapidly through the soil, control the
soil and heavy rains will not affect it, negatively.

Beautiful trees raised with loving care!
The branches look like they have all the green at their tips. Is this correct @Anthony ?

To continue -

if the Celtis is bare rooted, the spring growth is less than half
of what is seen above.
We tested the idea back in the early 90's.
Wonder where the third mother went ---------------

So we learnt how to propagate by root cuttings and keep
a small supply of trees for tests.

Additionally, because we go from Fridge [ winter ] to 2
months of dryish weather and then rain. The celtis can be
cut back 3 times a year.
In theory, 3 pairs of branchlets.
The celtis here have had to take a back seat to the locals
for a few years.

Well that's all for now, if anything major changes by October
will show.
Good Day

*oh, celtis heartwood rots easily, when exposed on our side.
Hence more effort to heal than ramify.

And no no one here thinks this is a great shape - but it is a mother.
Whenever taken for repotting ---- many roots ------ many new children
