I've never even HEARD of this species... but I love the character of the bark! A deciduous oak from Dallas, eh? Interesting!

The gray oak grows in the mountains of the southwestern Untied States which includes West Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, & parts of Mexico. I go collecting once or twice a year. Going to Taos, NM in June this year. Hopefully I'll find something then.
