I thought it would be interesting to follow the progression of spring around the country and N. hemisphere. So to kick it off nere are my first buds to pop. First my Japanese and American larches have both started showing green, so I need to move fast with any repotting. As with last year my Chinese quince have pushed out a few leaves and most other deciduous buds are swelling. I pulled a couple trident saplings put of their pots and they have nice fat white roots all over and buds swelling on the branches. I need to start sifting soil yesterday.

Here are shots of my larch:

We are in a heat wave, it hit 72F today. So I have been repotting to stay ahead of swelling buds—15 larch so far and 10 to go. Next in line after that are too many decids to list, all pushing buds. I pulled the last of the trees out of storage today as well and got them back on their stands—nice to have the back yard populated again!

Thank you very much for making this thread. As a beginner, this really helps me. If I could bother you with a newb question, I was curious as to when you started fertilizing again and what type did you use at that time?
Thanks again

I will start any time now, I usually give the trees a couple of weeks to recover then go at them. I use Miracle Gro full strength every 2 weeks until mid-summer then give them a break until the end of August. I then resume Miracle Gro until October when I switch to 0-10-10 until leaf fall.

Quite a few of my maples have already budded out, others are just about to.

'Momoiro koya-san' (Jerry Norbury has beautiful ones, mine is just a patio tree) :

'Phoenix' :

Others have already leafed out. 'Little Princess' ('Mapi no machi hime'), 'Tama hime', 'Koto hime', ...
It seems those in the "hime" family are early.

Koto hime (with flowers) :

Tama hime :
