I believe all bonsai to be quite therapeutic.
This one is bringing me some post summer smiles. Pic before a light pruning.86FCBF8B-5BB3-48C9-9EAE-D886F4D0E987.jpeg
Some pruning, but no radical styling at this point. Not finding much info on this species for bonsai. That’s ok, thinking maybe a flat top design for this in the future. I’m liking these twisting dual trunks.

This is Shruby St. John's Wort and not the medical herb, H. perforatum. I checked several references, but could find no indication of medicinal uses for this shrub. The herb is prolific in this area.

Huh, very good to know! Thanks.
I think I’ll be fine. I haven’t eaten too much of it. 😏
Naw, no plans to consume it. Just grow it. 👍

Recent heat wave and rain, has thawed many of my trees.
At least, most of the containers are no longer frozen to the ground.
Upon inspection, I notice this guy pushin’ some green?

Weird thing is, I can’t tell if this is growth from last fall or brand new growth because some of it looks dry and faded while other areas fresh green.
Perhaps some new growth that’s been damaged already??

I'm not familiar with this species....but I would be too freaked out to repot with buds opened already.
I know some plants can handle it, but in general, once the buds open, its too late to safely repot.

Thank you.
And I thought it was still to early to be doing repotting here. 🙄
Guess you just have to stay on it!!

A lot of the information I got on Hypericum.. was all from invasive databases..... they seem relentless from what I’ve heard.

Just under a table in a corner of my apocalypse area.

It was frozen in a big block of ice like the rest of them.. just no wind.

Soil is real stiff still. Began raking it out and was like, “screw it, I’ll Wait till it softens a bit more.

I plan to pot it up large. Two options.

Cedar box.

That looks nice. I was thinking the "flatbread bowl" would be cool, but the bonsai pot is even better.

I'd put the tree outside, just bring it in on the nights it drops below freezing. As much as I hate doing the "in and out dance", I already have 5 trees I'm shuffling in and then out. Tonight we get down to 25 F (- 3 C ).

Thanks Leo. Yeah, I decided I could get the root ball reduced enough to get it in this pot. A bit better proportions I think.
Thanks for the advice. In and out dance. Get my steps in!😄
