I have a dozen JM between the 5 and 6yr mark that I've been growing out. Today one caught my eye and I thought to myself this would make a great literati. So I brought it inside and wired it up. I like the overall shape and I'm curious to see it leaf out in a couple weeks.

Now I just need to find a decent pot to match it to. Anyone have any ideas what pot would look. I'm thinking a small bowl.

No variety from what I can tell, it was grown from seed. I do have Bihou and Sango Kaku growing out. Hopefully i'm able to do some AL this spring and grow those out as well.

it seems incredibly thin and branchless for a 6 year old maple! have you been giving it any special treatment throughout the 6 years knowing you would eventually us it for a literati?

First 4yrs it was in a 2.5"x2.5" pot. It had 1 chop, you can see it in the first pics I posted. Last year I planted in a 1gal pot to give it a burst of growth.

Nothing special and no intentions for doing literati. I was walking past it and I looked at it and thought it would make a good subject.

Interesting trunk movement. You don’t see J Maples grow like this. Be vigilant about the wire, you’re creating a very dynamic feature in the trunk that could be diminished quickly with wire scars that will last forever on this design.
