I got this dwarf juniper and did some styling and trimming. Potted in a large pot to let it grow until spring. Should I have trimmed the roots since I trimmed some branches? Also I used a combination of pearlite and sphagnum and potting soil since it’s all I had. Covered with moss from my yard. Any suggestions are welcome!

What is your location? Adding your location to your profile gives people more to go off of when giving feedback.
But it looks fine. Leave it be until next year, it’s getting late in the year for too much work. The tree needs it’s strength to get through the winter. Next year, you’ll want to repot into some proper bonsai soil.
Care for it as usual until then 👍

Thanks for the tips! I’m in 8A I believe.

If your goal is to thicken the trunk, then it's best not to prune it.

There is no compulsion to prune roots when you prune the top. Cut the top whenever it needs it.
leaving the top to grow will help the trunk to thicken. If you keep pruning it will stay skinny for many, many years.
I would not have added sphagnum to the potting soil. It could keep it too wet but its done now so just take care when watering. Allow the soil to get just barely dry (under the surface) before watering again.

Best git you another I reckon.

Welcome to Crazy!

I’ve got my eye on a number of saplings around the yard. Got a couple of 3-4 year old Juniperus virginiana popped up in the back section of the yard, some persimmon and glossy privet that I’m thinking about digging up and potting when early spring comes round!

Open your throat and shout announcements of your arrival, wanderer. You were beckoned to the Tiny Forest, hearing the Woody Dwarves song on the wind. (Bb minor, I believe)

All pertinent information has already been provided, here.

Just strolling over, from MY drum circle, eyes red and glossy to introduce myself.

Pleasure to make your acquaintance!
