So this is the tree that got me started. My wife bought me a class to make a bonsai and I don't think she knew what she was getting into. Jokes on her.

The raw material was humble

The initial styling was cute

After a year it got some pads

This year it grew really well.

And then just got a haircut last week. It's still a humble tree but it's turning into a respectable little shohin.

Hey, it’s starting to look like a tree now. Nice job. Keeping it alive is half the battle, so you’re ahead of the game.

Annual haircut time for this tree. This time I wanted to compact the trunk to it didn't become a runaway cascade and stayed in the ballpark of semi-cascade. I also wanted to clear a view of the trunk which had become obstructed with all of the foliage.

I'm still not entirely sure what I want to do with the foliage on the right side of the tree. I'm tempted to remove it entirely next fall and really push the tree to the right. But I'm both timid and didn't want to take off to much foliage in one go.
