This cupressus macrocarpa "gold crest" begun to turn yellow in some parts a month ago. Otherwise the tree was/is very healthy. Two weeks ago I thought a bit of iron chelato would be good in case of chloriosis. But it made no difference. Today I observed that this yellow color is only in the upper part. You can see that in this video:

So it must be related to light.
It's been full sun the last 10 months.
So, ...what do you think is going on?

Possibly mite damage. try the paper test to see if anything falls off the tree?

I doubt it's light related if the tree has been in the same orientation for 10 months. Mites like dry heat, I'm assuming it's dry and hot where you are... don't know for sure. Hopefully someone else has seen this, I don't work with that genus

These two guys look similar!BD70A5F0-8CB6-45C6-93CF-A1A5280B8392.jpeg
;)

On a more serious note..(i can’t view videos at the moment)

Is the yellowing in JUST the tips?

Yellowing in cupressus is commonly, from what I’ve read, either related to watering (under, I believe) oooor blight, if it is just the tips.. but I have no first hand experience.

Someone with more EXACT information and specifics should be by soon.

No spider mites or bugs of any type.
Maybe a fungic reason?.....I still think this is light/sun related...

Oooooh THAT...

That is just juvenile foliage..

Cupressus goldcrest, is called “Lemon Cypress” around here..yellowing in new growth is exactly what it’s supposed to do/look like...

...i think!

🤓

(Once again, someone with “hands-on” experience with these will know)

No, you can see juvenile foliage in some places, but it's been turning scale mature foliage incresingly in the last months. Right now about 50% is adult. Anyway yellowing is in both....

as horselover somewhat mentioned, with the name gold crest, perhaps it is in it's nature. nothing looked unhealthy about it, maybe if it wasnt named 'gold' as subspecies...

Well, I care for another three of these. Bought them the same day, and had been 1 meter far from this specime the last 10 months. They look light green, with no yellowing in any of them......

Arghhh...looking at the last picture, I saw something strange in my other 3....they are begining to yellow in some tips.....Now I'm really concerned.
Hope this is not the begining of the end....should be my first ever loss of trees (maybe it was just time to lose my first :( )

Hmm..

Same soil/timing/nutrients as the others?

How moist are the roots?

What kind of fertilizer?

2 weeks AFTER iron, you said?

My “passive”, quick to complain, easy to “read” species, like Salix and Potentilla, receive iron WHEN they are yellowing, and it clears up.

Hmm..

My brain-gears are a-grindin’

How long have you had it?

Could be new growth's yellower color, which has been observed on these "gold" joints.

But yeah...."Gold Crest", and ..
I observed that this yellow color is only in the upper part
Kinda fits perfectly.

Are there another other signs of adverse health?

No....Everything looks fine. It is growing right now....
Well.. if they’re healthy, i wouldn’t be too concerned. :)

The eyes, as well as the environment around the eyes can change... especially with time, my friend. ;)

Glad to hear your Trees are healthy.
