strange looking tree/leafs i thought id share, ID?

@CWTurner the chestnut oak and the one you referenced^ seem like they could be it! i have never seen an oak like that around where i live (this campus has great tree planted many years ago) i know of one other non native oak they have on campus, looks like a white oak with smaller leafs, extra lobes


the leafs on tree i posted her are large!

the leafs on tree i posted her are large!
The oak I mentioned has the largest leafs of any oak I believe. I have seen chestnut oak at kew and I think the leafs are more symmetrical and the lobes where more like teeth https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quercus_montana dentata gets used as a landscape tree sometimes because the large leaf, but it is not used often. There is even one trained as bonsai with an interesting history https://www.magiminiland.org/1800Refs/Burlingame.html

it looks like dentana, and the history you shared is very cool.
