Hey all, so I bought this ficus because I like the flow of the tree, personally I hate the other ficus leaves they grafted on here so I cut them all but the top so it could heal up. I now was to cut the top off (I'll root it and plant it) but where would you cut it off. I will post some pics of plants that I want it to somewhat be ( they are just references ) . I do know once I cut the microcarpa leaves off it will grow standard ficus leaves as I did this to my other ginseng ficus and it looks better in my opinion. Any feedback back and help will be appreciated.

P.s Miko 🐈 would not stay down lol

What make you think the leaves were grafted on? That's actually pretty unusual outside of Ginseng, and that's not a Ginseng trunk.

They have graft lines , i can see where they are grafted in plane site, if im not mistaken the main trunk is more tiger bark ficus which has the bigger leafs and the grafted is microcarpa which has the small leafs

Next time you go a friend's home who has figs that you want to use as scion, take your scissors with you, and a baggie.

Well I'll be damned. That's super interesting, thanks for posting. I wonder what variety the grafted branches/leaves are, they look a good deal smaller in your photo than most Microcarpa normally have. Also FYI if you weren't aware, Tiger bark is also variety of Microcarpa.

lol, of course these are grafted. Surprised that some of the experts here did not know..

As for cutting down.. I personally think the trunk line is too curvy, too fake to be realistic in the long run. So I would go quite low, something like here:

Just make sure it is pumping with health. I have seen figs slowly die-back because there was not enough power left to bud out.

Looks like this could be a designer feline. Is it?
