Hi all,

For those who may have read one of my other threads, this is one of the trees I picked up from Erik Wigert's nursery last week while on vacation in sunny FL. I'm thinking that it would be a good candidate for a windswept version due to the lopsided foliage and branching. Let me know what you think. Thanks in advance!

Take everything I say with a grain of salt but here goes:

Here in the desert SW we have mesquite as a native. They can be seen cascading down embankments and hillsides having toppled after the strong monsoon storms. I have always thought it would be cool to try this look with such a tree and yours might suit that cascading style.

Something to think about...

Hum... This just popped into my head as well. Not sure if it is a valid look for bonsai or not but:

Yep, that second look is what I have going with an azalea and a weigalia right now that are in progress. It's a common style of growth for trees around here (Kentucky). See it all the time.

Thanks for the input. I hadn't considered cascade for this...now I'll take a look at it!

I have this plant in my collection and it started out with the same shape.
I have let it grow and I've now gone from a possible windswept style to an informal upright.
Let it mature a bit and just like children it will tell you what it wants to be!

@Clyde It occurs to me that mesquite might not make bad bonsai. Just a thought.
