Hey everyone, What do I do with this japanese white pine. I try and only do shohin with the exception of one tree, so think small. The tree is 8 inches high. My thoughts were that the apex is the tallest branch shown and the main branch should come down to form a cascade, but that was just a thought. This pine was imported from japan and is around 10 years old. The trunk has a nice twist as well. I am open to suggestions of any kind. Thanks, Andrew

Needle reduction and ramification. I like the movement.

What he said :) I think the design lines are good - you just need to clean it up (eliminate downward hanging needles, etc) and develop the branches. You will want to pull the branches down as well - they are all springing upwards instead of hanging down. The apex will need to grow and be developed - it is too small atm.

Nice little guy.
Ya once ya clean it up a bit like B-nut and Will said then you can see where ya need to push growth back and get your little pads going.
I like the Informal Upright it's going for right now.

Hope to see more of it as you go.
