At the request of a member who may name themselves, I decided to open up the weekend of...

July 16th and 17th

To Repot some Mugos, Junipers, Spruce, Boxwood that I have, a few of which can be given away, and whatever else anyone may want to bring.

The Lunar Almanac says transplanting is good on both days.

I have some stuff that needs to be layered too.

Figured we can make a weekend out of it, I may even have cucumbers by then, not that they go good with beer but.....

I'm going to find our Illinois chat PM and post this there, please @ someone who may want to join.

To have a barbeque, we must first make charcoal, no problem!

#regenerativebonsai
#party@sorce's
#coolkidsonly
#summerrepot

PM me for an address.

Some sleepover space available for drunkards and the hardcore.

The solar calendar is useful for Hunter/gatherer societies... (Migration/hibernation/"running")

While Agricultural "tribes" have been relying on the Lunar calendar, due to it's even CLOSER relationship to "Flora"... did ya'll hear that?... CLOSER...relationship... to PLANTS!

This is Earthly Wisdom that has been utilized since BEFORE the indo-European split! (also) By the intricately separated tribes of Illyria. Even the "Placed farmers of Babylon (maybe NOT the Babylon you are thinking of) knew. (This is naming a VERY few)

For these reasons, I believe we could NEVER deny the relevance of the Lunar Calendar...

I LOVE that Sorce pushes it.. HARD!

🤓

I rely on a species and (more importantly) native range -specific Amalgam of BOTH calendars.

But could NEVER deny the usefulness of either.

I believe for the unique microclimate along the Great Lakes, there's a reasonable second best window for repotting. I still believe early spring is "best" season, but middle July, thru August and early September "ain't that bad" if you provide some winter protection. After care is key. Success isn't 100%, but it is pretty good. Really the moon is irrelevant, but it's as good an excuse to get to work as anything.

Repotting in June or July in Texas or desert southwest would be stupid. This works because our summers are mild compared to most of the USA. If you live more than 100 miles away from Sorce or Myself, don't use our calendar for repotting.

This is not ok.

Just accept the moon's agenda. You'll never go back.

😉

I believe it's the daylight hours more than the temperature.
The varied spring temps mess up spring repots but the heat never messes with the summer ones.

Moon over Matter.

No. Literally everyone lives in a maritime or subtropical climate AND uses a greenhouse to keep the trees protected for 6 months out of the year.

If you can't manage both of those things and honor the horticultural traditions of that, then I will have to kindly ask you to cease the hobby.

You know the "Farmer's Almanac" is all 18 th and 19 th century's best folk mysticism. A totally science free zone.

Science is mostly observation.

I trust pre WWII death chemical observation more than....."science".
