Just noticed this on all of the leaves that have or are starting to harden off. Is this just the "grey" part of Grey Birch? Of a recognizable fungus?

Can you rub it off? My first guess would be powdery mildew or mineral deposits as it gets stronger on the edge of the leaf. But the leaf looks healthy otherwise and it looks pretty consistent so maybe like you said that's the grey look? https://www.google.com/search?q=pow...Gw4AOOnIGwBg&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1400&bih=781 I have zero birch experience.

On further search this came up under grey birch. http://www.for.gov.bc.ca/hfp/publications/00198/251 to 300/fig296.jpg it's from the ambermarked birch leafminer. https://www.google.com/search?q=gre...61,d.dmg&fp=eccaf2133e034095&biw=1400&bih=781 I would think it would take a swarm of them to give you that kind of consistent coverage though. :) Probably just mineral, or chemical deposits.

Grey birch does not have grey leaves or grey blotches on the leaves.
That isn't normal.

It doesn't rub off. It has a very regular and ordered pattern. I am filtering my water and we have had so much rain I'm not watering that much right now anyway. Seems to only be in the leaves that have hardened off.

If this pattern is on EVERY leaf that has begun to harden off, they all have a nice deep green color with no other widespread damage, and the tree has grown well for you so far this year, I guess I wouldn't worry. That leaf honestly looks pretty healthy to me.

Yes this is the case. It's growing really well after last falls collection. I did have some branch die back but that is to be expected with Betula. If anyone knows of the resident expert on birch either on this forum or elsewhare I would love to pick their brain about care and development.
