I have been starting a couple threads on some specimens which I believe I could benefit from and enjoy tracking the progress off.

These two do not deserve their own threads.. but together... well, I guess they STILL don’t.. but it’s less of a waste of resources to “lump them”. (It’s also fitting because they were both collected in brown county during the same trip.)

Instantly, the flaws in my wiring process were noticed upon viewing the photographs...The wires have SLIGHTLY adjusted since the pictures

Also the growth extensions towards the ends of the branches are simply to sustain life... trying to chase the growth back down the branches.. lol

(WHAT WAS JUST SAID IS APPLICABLE FOR BOTH SPECIMENS)

I found that spruce with that little foliage can take a looooooooong time to recover. If they even do so.
Just a heads up, so it doesn't catch you off guard. Well, of course the slow recovery wouldn't catch you off guard, but sudden death might.

Spruce are one of the few trees that don't do the phoenix (rising from the ashes) stuff in my back yard.

Good luck!

My first reaction is feeling this was a bit harsh too.

But knowing that limit is as important as that blind kid knowing where that cave vent starts! Lol!

I will be adding two more projects to this “other conifers” thread that I’d like to document, but definitely do not deserve there own thread...

(((Undeveloped Tree Disclaimer)))
(((Look away if browsing for interesting pictures))) ;)

-

Tsuga Canadensis 2
- Raft Project -
This is quite young, I simply wanted to set the basic branch/trunk structure... and develop from there.
I realize that the wiring is a tad “awkward” and non-refined in technique...this is partially due to the fact that this is the third tree i wired. 😬.... the spot that APPEARS like the wires cross behind is an illusion, i promise.

Before. (Had to repot due to.... bumping off a bench incident)

After. (I chose not to perform the finer wiring at this time.. just let the “trees” grow out)

AND.

Taxus Canadensis 1. Collected Feb 2020.. the second tree I ever pulled from the earth (for these purposes)

Adding this “fella” to my “other conifers” thread.

T’was my first successful cutting.

Cryptomeria - 10 months ago.. he was just peeking about 2 inches out of the soil.

(((Update))) Cryptomeria.. (man i wish I could update without bumping this nonsense to the top.

So cleaned it up through fairly invasive pruning.... sacrificed most/if any of the current beauty in aspirations for the future..

Have to get some wire on it, soon, exaggerate those subtle “trunk” movements. Just meditating on it for another day or so.

(((Update)))

So the conifers that I was REEEEALLY disrespectful to during my PREVIOUS amount of ignorance. ;) are all still kickin’ suprisingly.

Picea Abies 1 - bouncing back and pushing new buds (so it’s alive CURRENTLY)

Tsuga Canadensis -1... surviving...

(whoops doesn’t show that whole branch)

Tsuga Canadensis 2 - Raft training....some needles died off.. but i believe this is due to damage sustained during wiring..

(I performed this work about 5 days ago, this not “best front” just best overall shot conveying the work)

I had spoken with @leatherback about this “trickster” in another thread.
