I am not interested in displaying in shows, but this was a question I broached two years ago when I was building several outdoor stands and benches to display my own plants in my yard. I ended up with stands (& benches) that ranged from 2 feet to 4 feet, and I am very glad I did it that way. Different plants and groupings look better at different heights. My walking stands, those viewed when walking or standing, are usually taller. Four foot was perfect for me for most of my large plants and particularly cascades and semi cascades. Some of my plants, like my forest planting, I prefer to look at from slightly above. The plants next to the chairs by my koi pond, offer a seated view of 18 to 24 inches. I also found that natural slopes give a different perspective when deciding heights for my benches and stands.
