Taiwan Bonsai Part 1: Mr. Su's

I would really like to become more familiar with the Korean Pine species. I have grown Korean White Pine from seed, or tried and found it to be a really nice tree but not suited to the beginner. I have grown the Korean strain of Pines Thunbergii and in Michigan USA they do really well. I am not familiar with the Korean Red Pine though. Where might I educate myself without going there?
Actually as far as I know Red Pine ( Pinus Densiflora) from Northern China and Korea are the main branch of the family, the JRP is a subspecies.....so I have heard. Seems like the Korean and Chinese are more resistant to the fungal infection by the longhorn beetle which is devastatingJapanese trees at the moment.
JBP and Korean black pine are also same genus and species ( subspecies) find the Korean one from Jeju Island be be the most aggressive growthwise. Vance are you talking about Pinus Koreansis? Heard thwy are tough havent tried it though. Korean Red Pine are an awesome tree tough as nails, backbud well even on old wood and are a very feminine and charming tree. Black Pine is a bit more manly looking. Heheh come to Korea! Will show you the best trees.....theres a bonsai museum....um botanic garden on Jeju Island too

Amazing collection. Thanks for sharing.
Wonder what a fair price for let's say the first two trees you posted would be. Just to get a perspective on pricing. We don't have any decent Bonsai here but something not even half good as those and with flaws would be around 2-3 K USD

I don't really know myself. I think it largely depends on who you are selling to. A lot of Mr. Su's clients are wealthy overseas individual who are willing to pay a fancy dollar to have one of these trees. Because of this prices are easily inflated. Definitely in the 5k+ USD range though.
