Regarding the subject of the thread, I highly recommend the Taiwan trident maple for bonsai, based on my on specimen, which has pleasing rough bark and uniquely shaped leaves which reduce as well as the species. As far as I can tell so far, these easily winter just like a typical Acer buergerianum, so winter storage in zones 6b-7 is no problem.
