I think that I have come to the opinion that Taiwanese Deciduous Bonsai Surpass Japanese Deciduous trees in a few ways., at least as represented at this show compared to the Kokufu exhibitions I have seen. I find the Taiwanese trees to be much more natural representations of miniature trees in general. In most (but not necessarily all) ways I am left with the feeling of actuals trees. Rather than some stylized version of what a trees should look like. No pancake Nebari, no sumo trees, no ( or few) horizontal or downward growing branches. If nothing else I am grateful for these bonsai as a counterbalance to the Japanese form. That being said I still love Japanese deciduous trees.

With respect to coniferous material I still like the Japanese trees much more as a general rule. But, some of these deciduous trees are some of the most amazing trees I have ever seen anywhere.

Enjoy!
