Tamarind bonsai tap root been growing for three years now . I went to exchange pots and found the tap root really small , so I repotted it without cutting .
Should I have cut the tap root or not ?

It would help to see some pictures so we can tell. If you have feeder roots around the tree then cutting the tap root is in order. I have 2 Tamarindus indica that are two year old and about 30" tall. I just cut the tap roots, rearranged all the roots and put them in Anderson flats a few weeks ago. The flats are sitting on top of good soil so if they need extra nutrient they can send out the roots through the bottom screens.

Thanks for the reply , I'll wait at his stage to see if the tamarind recovers from the exchange . My bonsai only about 15" tall about half your size ( I'm in New Zealand ) probably too cold down here
I can re-pot again if needed and cut the tap root then .
