So a relative of mine ended up with a whip of a tree from an arbor day presentation at school, didn't have any use for the tree so they passed it along to me. At first glance I thought it might be a bald cypress based on leaf shape, but the more I look the more little differences I'm finding between it and the Cypress already in my growing-bed... Different leaf scar shape, no vertical striations in young bark, and the leaves have a slightly different texture... Let me know what you think, need to get this little guy in proper soil - don't want to end up putting a redwood in a water tray with soggy substrate

the give away is the opposite buds/branches. and the leaflets directly opposite on the leaf stalk. Not always super definitive but the foliage seems looser/less crowded than taxodium
