Pot-o-gold indeed!
I hope this one survives the collection, it's a beaut.
I see you must be from across the pond, where are you located? (you could put it in your profile so people don't ask all the time...) I wonder how harsh your winters are...
I love the compactness of this tree.

This one has a lot more potential than the other one (as nice as it is also). Good job spotting it and good luck!

Are you using pure Kittydama too? Looks too orange to be akadama.

It looks to me that he is using red volcanic gravel? At any rate if you look at the photos for some reason they have a distinct red hue to them and trying to accurately determine the color of the soil from these photos would, for me, be an impossibility.

Hi folks,
To answer your questions, I am from North West England (I've updated my profile) ;) The first Taxus in this thread was the first and only I have collected before this one. I am very happy with how well it established in the box, so I have used the same technique and soil. Pure Sophisticat cat litter ("kittydama" as you say) With a few percent limestone chippings mixed in.

I hope to collect some more Taxus in the Spring. :D

My friend John Ostranica is currently making some great imitation stone slabs and has made this one for me if I do choose to go down the windswept route with the first tree. It is just waiting to be fired this week.

Here is another yamadori Yew that I have recently acquired (collected by another friend, Simon Jones). This is a shohin sized tree that has got good potential for another windswept bonsai.
