I've heard that beer helps dissolve pine sap...
Burp - what?

Yep! That's how it's done! Mine came from that patch, but I believe it had already been harvested a couple years when that picture was taken.I was just re-reading Eric's blog post which has this pic from Telperion Farms. The internode lengths on those sacrifice branches are amazing. Is that 1 - 2ft of growth that represent each growing season? Do you see your guy's trees?

A bit more progress. Here's the tree at the end of the growing season.

And after a little cut back and some rough work on the dead wood.

Jins need to be shortened, but I think I see a much shorter tree here. Need to think about that.

Looks awesome!A little more work on the deadwood. I do mostly hand carving I prefer the look and find it hard to replicate with power tools. I reduced the jins (especially the top jin) and gave them some texture. I burned them with a torch and wire brushed the jin. Then lime sulfur - 50% strength.

Any update on this one?
Had to make room for the new juniper, huh?Well. I paired down the collection. This one didn’t make the cut and I sold it.

Looking back at the trees at Telperion, I wonder how many Shiners tall they were?
The only ones I’ve ever seen are the ones they exported to Georgia. I looked in California, but didnt find any.LOL. Texas Shiners or the ones the make for export to Georgia?

Like this one, i know your execution would create better branch angle than this drawing. besides it would give you the opportunity to practice extra grafting to heal the cutsThis is fun. So here's another possibility without the deadwood. Which do you like better?

That's amazing and beautiful visualisation, what software do you use @markyscott to create this? thanksSigh - nothing to do this year except watch it grow and dream what the future might hold. There are a couple of trunks that he sawed off that might make good deadwood features. What do you think of this?
