What are some good ones?

For years i have passed a couple of slightly age blasted sombre multitrunked fissured bark things in the local park and yet only today do i notice that dark green leaves are still present.

For some reason i thought these had little black berries but in the dwindling light i spied a strange husk stuck to a twig,it's similar to the cup shape part of regular acorns or the mast of Beech but it's longer and paler.

The leaves are ovoid glossy and smooth to mildly serrated.

Here is the mystery husk.
