Did a check with the Herbarium at the University of the West Indies, seems
that Trinidad only had 22 species of trees in the beginning. The rest are
via Bird poop, from South, Central and North America.

Some survived / adapted and became abundant enough to be logging
trees. Others came as introductions by man.

Now here is what we have observed - they do well in the earth.
Poorly as pot plants.
The Flaucortia [ Governor cherry - childhood fruit ] grows in Taiwan as
well and is sub-tropical.
In a pot 4 years and dead.

Similar variations in Pomegranates, Murraya p. Gmelina, Vitex and so on.
Also read about this in a book on trees [ Australian author ]
Some sub-tropicals also become bright light candidates, Sagretia t,
Celitis l for exmple.

Now did some reading read that the earth stays warm in winter, snow
insulates and roots remain active.
So when we fridge we use crisper temperatures not 0 deg,C [ 32 deg.F ]

The gmelina used to live in a mica pot [ chewed up car tire rubber = insulation?]
The 65 year old Murraya used to live in a white styro grape packing box.
Full sun and lush.
Change to bonsai pot plastic and a real bonsai pot. Problems.
Sparce foliage, branches dying.
Had both plants over 25 years.

So we head back to mica and styro grape packaging pots.

Small wonder indoor Bonsai can give so much trouble.
Small wonder the Chinese and Japanese used to place
trees in the earth and mulch.
Warm earth. happy roots. [ @0soyoung gave a temperature
of .... for low temperatures for roots to still grow ]

Anyhow, it seems that a wind channel, facing East at 200 feet
does make a difference.
So much to learn and experience...............
Good Day
