Hmmm. I’ll have to google Gumpo whites. 😁
I pick up two for very cheap. Both have a lot of cleaning to do but since they were end if year clearance I had no idea about all the flecks of pink. Needless to say I'm happy !

Gumpos are the two on the right. Also got the old knarly mugo too.

Ok. Today I have a cheap boxwood.
saw it on the ground at Menards. Looked like it had been knocked on to The ground as it was loose from the pot. Thought it looked OK and would see if I could save it. Brought it to the counter and got it for 75% off-7.50$. Deal. Slipped into a new nursery pot with some sphagnum Moss.8D9F4D9E-6C7A-4A21-BD12-27C801F274E4.jpegC06FE2F6-8643-48C8-AF90-FE64267682DD.jpeg43EDF426-DF10-44DB-A928-C8EB4894DF85.jpeg
Recycled bonsai soil mix too full it in.
gave it a good watering and then pruned for an hour or so. EE6FA0D4-6891-4274-88F1-ED50282A2CC1.jpeg
I hope it likes its new home!😁

I got here a beat up

ramapo rhododendron 🤕

Clearance from Lowe’s

When I purchased it, there where dead flowers on it. The following year it perked up, but no flowers. View attachment 342636
Since, it has dropped more leaves and is looking even more bare. That’s ok. I may have soil off. I’m guessing not acidic enough/ alkaline. View attachment 342618View attachment 342619
Still, well worth my 2$. 😀
This tree is dead.

I also look at it as cheap material to learn on seeing as how I'm a noob. It also serves as something I wouldn't be as concerned about being aggressive with (cuts/bends etc) Unfortunately the amount of bonsai soil I will need to come up with will quickly get expensive, main reason I'm looking for an affordable alternative.
Exactly!!! Like anything, The more you put yourself in front of a challenge the more you learn. Killing trees is easy but a lot rougher when killing an expensive one!

Yes, it occurs to me I have a problem. I used to criticize my stepmother for buying useless knickknacks at the Goodwill, I don’t do that anymore. 😁
Two more clearance nursery finds. This time two Sabina junipers.

The long bottom branch needs to go. Just decided enough was enough for now.

**OK, I’m not sure if this thread already exists, if so, let me know and I won’t continue. 😁

I really want to see some nice examples of crap material turned terrific! -Ldirt cheap rubbish given a shot at beauty.

My inspiration for this,...... well most of my plants.
And, my recent 90% off, “please take these off our hands,” purchases from Lowe’s.

1st, the 1$ blue rug View attachment 341859
Repotted and dead removed w/ a little wireView attachment 341853
I’ve told myself to only removed dead foliage.
2nd, a 2.25$ blue rug spruce.
View attachment 341860View attachment 341861
Again, only dead foliage removed, and some wire. View attachment 341856
Looooooong way to go. But soo much fun!
Update on 2.25$ blu rug. = dead.
update on 1.00$ blu rug. = growing alright.
Refined the wire and tip pruned.

I like to pride myself that most of my stuff was under $10

I got 4 Japanese cheesewoods for $2.50 when they were on sale. Different trunk movements, so lots of options
