Last year I got a wild hair up my bum to put together a bald cypress forest on a large scale. So last spring I ordered a dozen bc seedlings figuring I could do a mass planting.

Then over the summer I picked up three larger ones in various sizes

I also orderd a very big plastic training pot from Dallas Bonsai. Yesterday I pulled that all together and created this 5 tree “forest”. Down the road I will reduce the root depth so it can go into a decent bonsai tray and if there is room I will add a few more trees to the mix. Right now I just have to be concerned with getting it in and out of the garage on these freezing nights without straining my back. I stole my wife’s garden wagon until it can go outsode permanently. Here’s looking at it from both sides.

Looks good, I plan on getting my first bald cypress this year. Jesse Israel and sons had some last year, I plan to buy and chop when it’s a good time. Do you put a dish of water under them to keep it submerged, only asking because I heard that fattens the trunk up?

I tried the submersion thing last year and really didn’t notice much difference. I have a stream in my backyard so I put several in it. About midsummer the foliage seemed to burn out in the full sun so I took them out of it. I also had several of the small seedlings in a plastic tub I got at Tractor Supply. Those three grew about the same as the ones sitting in the ground. So I just water and feed them regularly and they did fine. Altogether I now have 10 of varying size and one huge one coming at the end of the summer as soon as Zach finishes growing roots on it.
