I'm no gearhead, but I do have a soft spot for old trucks.
This one was a fun spot, though.

1947 sleeper cab tractor. Had to share this one with a friend who used to be a truck driver.
Seen one like that recently guy lowered it lengthened the frame had 2 factory style pick up boxes together so like one long box. With duel rear wheels all gloss black wheels truck bumpers no chrome was very cool

Life long dye soaked into brain drag race fan . Just watched some of the NHRA new last year factory hot rod class . Very cool cars . Hard for a red neck leek me to imagine a faster way to spend money . Start with one of the new factory built race cars from Chevy ford or dodge . Like the cobra jet mustang or copo Camaro ( limited build 100.000 $ car ) that makes 450 hp and weighs 3400 lbs and modify it to run mid 7 seconds quick math days that takes about 1400 hp min a good guess is about a 1/4 mill dollars race car but very very cool . 😂😂😂

My new, old truck 68 C20

Very nice 3/4 ton . If the engine is original heavy duty engine block forged steel crankshaft and connecting rods . Pre politic. Control No egr valve 1/2 point more compression depending what engine now that’s a truck 😎😎 looks clean original 👍👍

It's purported to be the original 307 with 3 on the tree
The 307 engine does not get enough respect . It’s a 283 bore with a 327 stroke crank both great engines . The 68 is before the black heads and crank manufacturing was moved to Mexico and in the Mexicans defence . The quality of the metal was reduced . Should have a Rochester 2 bl carb very simple and fuel efficient . Far better engine then the newer 305 . The Saginaw 3 speed trans is about as bullit proof as can be . Much stronger then a 4 speed . We used to use it in stock cars for its durability . There is a 4 speed truck trans but it’s essentially a Saginaw 3 speed with a bull low first gear 307 2 brl 3 speed standard great combo very efficient 😎😎😎😎😎

Good info, thanks!
NP it’s a cool old truck . Do some research one of the few drawbacks I can see is there nay be oarts in the fuel system most likely the fuel pump and carb that don’t like alcohol . Hard to avoid today . By law in most states has to say on the gas station pump . Only premium has no alcohol In most cases . Expense is up to you . A modern rebuilt carb will be alcohol compatable . Under no situation give up the original carb or other parts like alternator or distributor As a core for a rebuilt pay the core charge keep original parts . Ideally have someone trustworthy rebuild the carb . There is quality in there you can’t buy . Sorry to ramble

Here’s a blast from my past . Owned several sport bikes years ago 2 of them somewhat rare . This is one . Somewhat rare because it was not available in the USA . Would not pass the pollution. Specs . 1986 Suzuki RG 500 gamma . In 1985 and 85 both Yamaha and Suzuki built street versions of there world GP 2 stroke race bikes . So it’s a 4 cylinder 500 cc 2 stroke . They lacked the low and mid range power of 4 stroke bikes . But a blast to drive especially at speed above 100 mph . Wicked sounding motor and very light to throw around . Mine with aftermarket exhaust pipes and bored carbs would top end 156 mph on a radar gun

Bikes are very popular collector item . I believe stems from there is a means of legally licence them in the USA know . ( most likely exempt from emissions based on age) somehow as the original purchaser. New of one I can be searched . I’ve been contacted several times about the whereabouts of my bike .

Got a new set of wheels today.
My 13 Tundras steel wheel design flaw holds water in a trough inside the wheel which caused the weld seam to fail to hold air well. Local shop that repairs wheels, cost would've been more than the new wheels.

Got my wheels installed today at no charge :)
They look great never heard of that flaw . Wierd for a steel wheel to leak air . Normally alloys have more trouble higher r level of expansion hot to cold and prone to cracking old style steel normally tough as hell

Pretty sure it's a welding issue.
A local wheel vendor I took it to suggested Bent Wheel Solutions, a shop that repairs wheels.
They looked at it, and said new wheels would be cheaper, and they don't sell wheels.
Said $300 ea to weld, and as is, the wheel could come apart. Not a selling scheme by any means.
I called the Toyota dealer shop mgr, and there's nothing Toyota will do. At least I asked them 1st.
New replacement steel wheels at Toyota were $4 ea cheaper than the after mkt ones I got :)

This is the 1st wheel to fail to hold air. I dropped it off today at a friends who's son teaches welding
at CSX railway to see if he could weld the 4 up for my studded tires, so I snapped a couple pics of it
while I had it out in the sun light. Perhaps impurities at the time of weld or just a sloppy job.
Even the valve assembly is mounted in this trough that holds salt and water.
Integrity of the wheel is highly compromised, it could separate.

Ya now that I seen them there junk . I would not have expected Toyota to do anything for a truck that old . You made the right choice . I’m a ford mechanic . I’m not the sort that says bad things about other manufacturers. There is always a compromise between weight and performance . Light is fast fuel efficient and handles great . Heavy is tough . T does lean there trucks to the light side . But that is a wheel in very bad shape . I think you will find if you did research it’s common . All vehicles have weaknesses you just found one . So your choice was correct

Yep electric cars are the bomb . 2022 Ford F-150 lightning 2 x 40 amp chargers one 850 cca truck battery buggy backed into the system . And a special for programming 10 amp power supply . All to attempt and fail to keep the 12v battery voltage above 12v with the ignition on for a 1.5 hrs software update . Yep the future is here

I'm a piston/carburetor guy... The new tech is impressive as I saw an electric dragster run 200mph 1/4 mile. An electric boat break 100mph. The Audi team is competing the Dakar w/electric power. All this year.

It's just not practical or advantageous yet IMO. But... I'm a crotchety 60yr old gear head.
I think we need to have a beer one day @Frozentreehugger

I can even work on that stuff 😂😂😂 don’t think I could afford the fuel bill on the twin big block boat . Wow . Nice dragster . Im ex stock car 1/2 owner / engine builder tuner / crew chief . Ex snowmobile drag racer . Ford master tech . For a living . 58 gear head . And yep crotchety . But will have to pass on the beer 🍺 . Been sober since 10/12/21 . But no doubt we would get along famously . I just shake my head latest apprentice I have had never even drove a car with a carb 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
