This new Kiln. Propane Gas Fired.

20200415_154137.jpg

I started firing yesterday, like this with the kids open.

20200415_113627.jpg

Then I closed it and popped the 2 near top vases. Too much thermal shock, and/or they still had water from the ash glaze.

Turn it off, vaccuum up some.

Begin again at Noon.

I left the lid cracked with a bit of shelf to keep from over heating.

Of course, this is all logged.
20200415_163658_HDR.jpg

It worked.

This Kiln Design is amazing, I'm glad I used it. German Design...Ahem!

Almost there.

20200415_223001.jpg

I hit my target Cone 6 or 2232 at 10:34. About 12.5 hours. Then I fired it down, and crawled back down thru 1063F. About 1130F-1000F. Since the extra large rectangles need it, I figured I'd practice.

When it was 1000F I sealed it up.

More?

More.

How hot is She?
Hot enough I overfired the whole top shelf and some of the next.
4 Gong ass Cascade pots I'm gonna hang in the yard!

_DSC1914.JPG

But check out the Good stuff!
This glaze I mixed up failed but didn't fail fail, PLUS!
I think it reduced a lot and the glaze melted the first layer of clay, exposing the sand. And it sheens purply. Supposed to be blue.

Weed Ash Glaze.

_DSC1917.JPG

This was supposed to be blue too.

_DSC1920.JPG

This is a yellow body attempt.

_DSC1923.JPG

Un VAZ. I dropped this, chipped it, threw it in wobbly on some why not, thinking it would run with the Fireplace Ash Glaze on it, but it didn't, even hot.

_DSC1925.JPG

This is a variation of the Red River Clay effects. A carve out, filled back in with the RRC.
I like this look, what do you think?

_DSC1927.JPG

The Blue, A bit thicker, but still not thick enough, and too hot, but still rather nice.
_DSC1929.JPG

And some shit! I melted a log of White River Clay in here. The gold specks in this are spectacular, almost a natural Tenmoku Gold. When I find out how to get enough of it on a vertical surface, this is that WHAT?

From very humble beginnings!

_DSC1931.JPG

This is just another thing that happened because of the way a couple scraps looked. LOL!

You may have seen David George on Facebook. I have a couple of his pots but never could grab a face one I really liked before someone else. Those are thisn'spiration.

,This is Number one in the category of, try out a bunch of new stuff on an actual pot and see what happens, and it worked!

The rim is a grey blue glaze made up of ash from my fireplace. These are so interesting because the contents of ash vary, and there is also bits of chimney brick dust in it, every batch will be quite original. I am so happy with this glaze, I may go to Walmart to buy another box of their wood that doesn't burn!
The body was painted with Red River Clay, dirty. The texture and color variations are so different. Some shell, sand, rock, and whatever else has been lost in this deposit of dirty clay. _DSC1902.JPG_DSC1903.JPG_DSC1904.JPG_DSC1905.JPG_DSC1906.JPG_DSC1907.JPG_DSC1908.JPG

The Ash Blue over the blue that didn't blue on a tester.

I think DebbieZula is gonna help me find the way to the top. Of your Shohin Stand.

A Shohin Stand is easy to get onto for a potter, since a Shohin Display usually has a home for an oddity of any sorts.
It is also has the most difficult place to obtain for a potter, that Top Spot. There isn't really another place in a traditional show space that will put a pot in a more perfect spot to scrutinize, and with it's usual requirements of perfect symmetry, it's a great challenge.
To obtain this honor, I will keep perfecting my BoxTop's. This one is seamless 1/8th inch thick throughout. Tolerances to the 1/16th's.

She went again.
Started at 11am and turned it off at 9pm.

This time at 2140F on the pyro, with a target of 2165F. My 6 and 7 cones were down at the top, so I killed it.

WOW!! I love pottery! I've made a few mugs and I've seen what they do at Tokoname Japan. You've got some very nice pieces for your experience. I especially like the cascade pots. I'm looking for one like you made, tall, sturdy, but not top heavy

Since I moved out of the Dirty Dungeon, there must be a new thin walled series. Love this one.

_DSC1947.jpg
_DSC1949.JPG_DSC1950.JPG_DSC1951.JPG

An accident, I forgot to make walls for this pot, so I had to make them from the cut that made the square slab a rectangle, turned into a nice shallow broom dish. I love these.
In my heart of hearts I love Adair too and I want to make one of these so nice he puts a tree in it!
So this isn't the last time you'll see that inspiration moving these towards......... perfection.

Technically a flaw, I don't mind a crawling glaze on a bonsai pot. So long as it doesn't crawl off onto my kiln shelf I reckon. Still, I don't think I'll use this glaze again. What do you think? If it works? Keep it Crawling? _DSC1936.JPG_DSC1939.JPG_DSC1940.JPG_DSC1941.JPG_DSC1942.JPG_DSC1943.JPG_DSC1945.JPG_DSC1990.JPG_DSC1991.JPG_DSC1992.JPG

This is the glaze that excites me the most for now! Stunning on this buff clay, no hassle naturally cooled and got that dope crystal. This is a small pot, the wall only about 1cm tall.

_DSC1983.JPG_DSC1984.JPG_DSC1985.JPG

On the Dark Clay, still small, less than 2cm tall wall. Has a slap of another blue. Handsome with the dark lines, but this glaze sure loves that clean clay.

Did we talk about how I stopped this firing at a lower temp than last time? By all my calculations, the first load was overfired cuz I hit cone 10 at the top. This one, Ranged from about cone 5.5-7.
I have two footprints you can see above, on either side of the burner, where I can put these taller vases and art things that don't need a perfect firing. This vase is underfired at the bottom, and overfired at the top! It makes for quite interesting textures in the glaze....s. This has all 3 blues and overlaps of them. See the brown inner lip and red foot? This was the last of the sacrificial vases. I almost like it.

_DSC1966.JPG_DSC1967.JPG_DSC1968.JPG_DSC1969.JPG_DSC1979.JPG_DSC1980.JPG_DSC1981.JPG_DSC1982.JPG

That's all for now.

Firing again Sunday or Monday. Cone 6-11! Reduction. I have 6 new Glazes mixed. 70% certain of 100% success!

Some of the first firing pots will be available then too. Still Running Tests.

Cheers!

@Yugen I should have a successful taller cascade in 2-3 weeks. Oh,,,Certainly a smaller glazed one out of this next firing!

I always end up at she loves me, if I start at she loves me, and all my flowers are whole, what type of flowers do I have?

Any flower that has an odd number of petals. Me thinks maybe a trillium that is in bloom right now, but you shouldn't be picking a flower to divine love casting
