Some of us arent trying to grow bonsai per say but maintain more finished bonsai. I'm in the grow campaign for now because I enjoy it and need a lot of things to keep myself busy.

Keep the Root system alive and well fed....that's all there is to it...

Let me furnish a little Context for my OP...Several BN's have asked me why their Bonsai Died, all they did was remove it from its 3", 4", 5", plastic store container into a little ceramic pot and then put it on the porch or deck, Watering it when it looked Thirsty ???, then after 3 or 4 months it appeared to be dying or dead....

I then posted a "Ten Cookie" Post to answer the question of Why did my Bonsai Die?.....

Thank you to all that have responded to my OP....

Bolero,

how many were honest enough to say, that in order to fit the tree's roots into the containers they,

[1] Bare rooted and washed off all of the soil ?

[2] Cut the roots ?

[3] Gave it a weirdo soil mix ?

[4] Should have put it in bright light for a week and not a windy, sunny zone ?

[5] Fertilised it, often with a stronger than normal mix ?

On this side newbees out of embarrassment do not always tell all.
Good Day
Anthony

Hmm......

I cut the roots every time I repot a tree yet at least 85-90% (guestimate, don't have actual numbers) of those are still alive.

Come on, you're not getting off that easy. I think it may be something more like "Thong Meister". Besides, you gave up stirring the pot two years ago, remember?
For the OP not me.

Which as I've found out, is actually much harder than "growing bonsai". I do both, as I'm sure most people who have more finished bonsai also do.

Im sure it is harder. Trying to keep the health and aesthetics balanced. We could spend several pages if not more just unboxing that topic properly.
