went to bonsai west to learn from zuma and work on some trees

here’s the korean hornbeam that @JudyB sold me and graciously kept in her greenhouse for the remainder of the winter

i know the first photo is technically the front but the second has such cool stuff going on, carving up that knot and making it a prominent feature is awful tempting

the biget pot they had was perfect for it imo

that's "Bigei", sorry. I left it there to recover since it's really the safest option this time of year until I get my winter situation, well, situated. I started drawing up plans recently and realized I probably could have just done it by now.

anyways I owe another shot so here's a Hokkaido elm we repotted into a pot from the Toyo kiln I got from Matt Ouwinga next to the hornbeam

Boxwood Compacta, Sam Miller pot. I rotated the tree a bit to try and pick up more of the nebari on the back left. I need to do some wiring/pruning on it for adjustments, but I am going to wait until it recovers from the repot.

Nicer picture to follow.

@badatusernames - I have a Bigei that is very similar to yours, I bought it around 1988 to 1992, somewhere around then. It is still waiting for me to develop a decent enough shohin to go into it. I am excited to see your Bigei, as this style pot is not what I usually think of as Bigei in the more recent years.

So for thread rules, imagine the tree I could have in this pot. Eventually, it will have a tree.
