I have Will Talbot working on a new pair of shoes for next year. The stand will work much better next year with a smaller pot. Love the blooms!!!

Variegated porcelain berry. This one lost all its ramification last fall during an abrupt and deep sudden first freeze (18 F) in mid November which was, in fact, the first time temps had fallen below freezing... all but 2 branches of the trunk turned to mush. This was after it had dried out during vacation the previous July and had lost all it's leaves and much of the finer branching. I honestly thought it was toast... it's already been wired out and cut back 3 times this year! Here's to hoping it hangs on to some of the new branches for more then 6 months!

Potentilla, from a garden center plant, potted this year (pot by Ashley Keller). Deadwood work coming in the fall.

This is another one of my favorite shohin projects that I started over the winter (2020), equipped with an ice-cold Lime Bubly, of course. Pretty much all of my trees are shohin sized. I have a couple trees that are a little larger, but I’m in love with shohin. I also tend to really enjoy a thinner more elegant look, which is why I love this tree so much. In future, it will of course have some better taper - I’ve had great success creating taper with only radial root pruning in my other benjamina, and I’m giving this tree the same treatment.

1.5 years from cutting with no taper.

So, I do expect the trunk to have a sturdier presence in the coming years. Also this is the max height. In fact I’ll probably work to shorten it a small bit, but not by much. As I said, I have an appreciation for slender elegance.
Edit: Also, I plan to have an even smaller pot - I think his eventual home will be a 4” round pot. But that’s for future-me to decide.
