After the craziest, best week of my life (my first child was born and I can’t stop talking about it) I finally got around to work on this willow leaf ficus. Perfect time to start a new tree, right? It was a gift from a really good friend, he’s filling up my benches and I’m not gonna complain. 😂

about two years ago i went to NEBG and asked how one could possibly make something like a mame. one of the folks gave me a few small branches off of some jades to play with. putting one in an unglazed pot for the first time, interested to see how the growth is impacted

i ordered a crepe myrtle from some landscaping company for cheap earlier this year and chopped it and potted it. prob should have left til next year but they are stronger growers and i can’t leave well enough alone, so i gave it a first rough shaping

ficus i’ve had for a couple of years, recently put in an ito tonyo. i usually feel as though if something looks off in a photo it’s something i need to investigate closer… but that lower left branch looks better to me than here. too 2d in the photo i guess. yes, it has wire scars. i like it anyways.

Is that a dead branch pointing straight down? If so, it would look better if that was gone.

how long do those take to get that size? from a 1/8" branch cutting?
i see youre in florida so ill factor that in
Depends on the cutting really, that one was a maybe a couple months but had no branching. This one was close to a year but had a good amount of branching and was pretty long when it went in but started as 1/4” maybe.
