I have been waiting a while to try this out but it may go down as an exercise of what not to do to a ficus. Time will tell.
What to do with this lot?

Keep the humidity up and it will be fine i guess
Slide a transparent bag over it for a while in a shady spot might do the trick and over some time poke holes in the bag until there is hardly no bag left
May I suggest Nessie as its new nickname?
Have you buried the exposed half of the rootball? I would do it for sure.
Hi everyone, this thread has been pretty informative. I'm new to Bonsai and just got this Ficus Ginseng, and had some questions.
1) Can you wire the big bulbous roots? Is it wise to do so, or is it better to cut off what you don't want, and then add Arial roots? Are there other ways to make those big roots interwsting?
2) People keep saying you should trim back the leaves whenever a branch has more than 7-8. What is the purpose of That? Should I do this while it is still growing? This plant was grafted, so all the leaves are coming from little young branches. Should I just let them be.
3) What sorts of styles are suitable with these big roots? I love the tree Anthony posted just above this, with the aerial roots acting as legs, but that seems totally unsuitable for this tree.
I appreciate any help you're willing to give a beginner!
Still ugly
Defra,

Good Day

This reminds me I need to get some moss on my trees.
So this one has had a rough time of it, it blew off my bench a few times over winter causing some of the damage . I call her the smashed crab.

Yeah I got no ideas either. I can leave it in the pot and grow it out, put it in a nursery pot and grow it out or chop it into as many pieces as feasibly possible and grow them out.
