Little bit of work on a japanese maple/acer pal pheonix. isnt it so much fun picking what to keep and what not to keep? this is one of my most enjoyable moments in bonsai

nebari isnt too shabby on this side either
the tree isnt without flaws though.
i see this cluster of branches will need to be thinned here, looks to have caused a little inverse.this particular tree will hugely benefit from going in a much shallower training container

My Austrian pine had been growing in the black plastic pot for years. When the bottom of the plastic pot broke, I set it in the wooden base temporarily. I recently built a full wood box for it and slip potted it into this to get away from the emergency rescue situation. This new box has runners on the bottom to help drainage and make it easier to move. I also built it too tall, so the top row of boards will be coming off.

I was able to change the planting angle this time which helps the design I think. I plan to bring that left branch down a bit.

As it has grown the last year or two I've noticed that the top (Oregon Green cultivar) is outgrowing the base, giving it reverse taper. I'm not sure what can be done about that at this point though. It wasnt so noticeable before.

Little more work on this powerful Carpinus 'broom'....

some basic wiring and

I decided to make a clean V cut on the trunk, with a view to creating a clean trunked tree with no visible scarring....

i think eventually this will just look like a wild tree where the trunk has split into two apices, thats the idea with the V

I had to temporarily move my trees to the stonewall at the end of last season while my roof was being done. I ended up liking how they looked there. I may incorporate this spot as a new display area. Any suggestions on what to do w the hillside behind them to clean up the look and make a decent background for the trees?

I would mulch it.

Chinese juniper back budding like something crazy, maybe it’s because of the ashes of the firecrackers, maybe because it’s in a cemetery and munching on the dearly departed, who knows?

Just in today from Wigerts. Wondering how long to wait before digging for some root flare and cleaning up the top.
