As I have gotten older, attractive bark has become more important to me, maybe because I appreciate its age more. I've started some ch. Quince and a Stewartia growing on - should be ready maybe by the time I retire.

Here's a much maligned tree, the ubiquitous Fuji Cherry, which many bonsai hobbyists have in their collection in the UK. At about 20 years old it gradually changes from a smooth tan to an almost black, warty bark. The flowers cheer me up as it always heralds the beginning of the next growing season. Hopefully, the pond basket has done it's job and it can go in a pot I bought for it last year.

This is my one and only Ginko, thinking it is time for a pot and trying out the one i purchased in Portland last september. Seem to match the blue tinge in the foliage and the gray tones near the bottom of the pot are close to the bark color. It may work. I like that it is a bit deeper for the boxwood. They seem to be a bit happier with the extra depth. Just placed in front for now. IMG_0853.JPG

Big maple project - I think it's 'Orange Dream' but by no means certain. It has a few 3ft+ sacrifices to improve transition at the top. A bit of an angle change and another round of wiring when all the leaves are off are needed. A finger thick, double trunk tree originally, I thought it was close to death so I planted it in the ground to recover - that was a 'while back'!

Still playing with nursery thuja “Degroots spire”. Inspired by a graphic I saw this year of an old growth red cedar. Multiple trunks and apex dead and alive. It’s a bit of a mess in the image, but I think with time will refine and I’ll be able to remove branches and tertiary trunks that muddy the composition. Fun none the less. 253683253684
