You don't get the idea of a forgetfull old man. I don't need you to chastise me like some recalcitrant child, so keep you opinion to yourself.

Sheesh, grumpy old man sounds like. Take a joke...or don’t😜
Oh, I have seen that juniper somewhere. Isn't this that tree that all beginners start off with? Juniperus procumbus 'everdead' or something?

My humble beginnings, 2011

Indeed! A friend decided to try his hand at Bonsai and brought it to me to try to save it. It was dead as a hammer by the time he got it to me and I finally had time to clean out the pot yesterday. Thought I’d get a good photo first, cause, why not?😜. This one is has a little better color...

This Siberian elm is getting better each year. After finally getting all of the branches where I want them and the structure of each set, ive really done nothing but focus on ramifying this year. Can’t wait to get a better look at the structure at leaf drop! Ive partially defoliate once this year and basically pruned for shape 3 other times. Growing so dam vigorous. The last pics are from today after one last heavy prune.

Dug this Mugo up yesterday. It's been in my front garden chilling for a while. I've MacGyver ed the hell out of it over the years with canes, guy wires and weights to introduce some wiggle.

If it lives it should make a fun project. There is a big lump of JWP next to it. I might dig it up next week if I've got time. IMG_20190812_132649.jpg

Acer Palmatum "Hillstock" originally from Warren Hill and purchased from Owen back in 2016. This is a cultivar discovered by Mr. Hill with small leaves and beautiful bright orange autumn color. I grafted a second trunk this past spring and looks like it has taken or getting there. I am excited to see this tree this winter. Lots more to do on it!

38" tall... big girl!

For the last six years or so, I have been studying Chinese penjing, particularly the literati examples I’ve run across. I’ve been able to do this mainly through the books and writings of Zhao Qingquan. “Literati Style Penjing” not only has excellent photos but also includes how-to examples. In the last couple of years, Hong Kong Bonsai Pots has been posting on Facebook. I have found excellent examples of Chinese literati pictures through them.

Finally, I decided to make a literati myself in the Chinese mode. I used gingko biloba tubiformis as the tree. This gingko cultivar is unusual in that while the tree is young, it puts out leaves that are rolled up. They eventually flatten out As the tree ages, the leaves come out more flattened to start with. The tree is about 31” tall.

The tree is in a blue cascade pot, suggesting a large body of water for the mudman Fisherman figurine to fish in. Rather than pointing to the center of the pot, as is the custom, he fishes outside.
