Picked up this Japanese Beech from a lady in Sacramento over the summer. A few big trunk scars (and more on the back) that I re-cut to help heal over. I'll take a look at those this spring. I'm very happy with the branch placement and think it'll look real nice after a few years of ramification. I'm not in an ideal area for beech, but it's survived in Sacramento for several years after being imported from Japan.
I think I'd also like to try some root grafting to improve the nebari. Do I need Japanese Beech seedlings for that? Or will European/American work?
I did some wiring last weekend to get a few branches improved. Here's a picture from today.
